An issue dedicated to “Another Tourism”

Approches Coopératives is pleased to announce the publication of Issue 30 of your quarterly review , entitled “Another Tourism”.

At a time when overtourism is challenging the balance between visitors, residents and territories, this new issue offers an in-depth reflection on forms of tourism that prioritize encounter, solidarity, responsibility and cooperation.

Understanding the challenges

Under the guidance of the editorial committee, this issue brings together analyses, testimonies and field studies on the transformation of contemporary travel.

Contributors address topics such as:

  • the consequences of overtourism and the search for a tourism of conviviality;
  • regenerative tourism promoted by the Geneva Forum;
  • social and solidarity-based tourism;
  • slow tourism and sustainable mobility;
  • tools for measuring tourism sustainability;
  • the role of the active and responsible traveller.

Inspiring experiences

The second section gives a voice to committed actors who demonstrate that another way of travelling is possible.

Readers will discover:

  • the UCPA adventure tourism experience;
  • cultural routes linked to the heritage of Al-Andalus;
  • the Abraham Path, a route fostering dialogue between peoples;
  • solidarity tourism initiatives in Kabylia;
  • projects led by agencies, associations and networks promoting tourism that is more respectful of people and places.

An invitation to change our perspective

As highlighted in the editorial by Patrick Gallaud, travelling differently is not a new idea. Rooted in popular education, scouting, youth hostels and social tourism, this approach continues to inspire those who wish to make travel a vehicle for learning, cooperation and mutual understanding.

Through this issue, Approches Coopératives invites readers to reflect on the way they travel and to contribute to the emergence of a more human, sustainable and solidarity-based tourism.
