When the Pope invites us to cooperate beyond differences for the common good.

A Significant Event

From 25 to 28 September 2026, Pope Leo XIV made a visit to France, travelling to Paris, Lourdes and Metz. The programme combined institutional meetings, religious celebrations, exchanges with young people, interfaith dialogue, reflections on European issues, and discussions concerning the painful reality of sexual abuse within the Catholic Church.

Beyond its religious dimension, this visit provided an opportunity for encounters between people from diverse backgrounds. The stages at UNESCO, Notre-Dame de Paris, Lourdes and Metz reflected his desire to foster dialogue among cultures, generations and beliefs.

The Choice of Dialogue

One of the recurring themes of this journey was the search for peace and unity. In Metz, an interfaith meeting and a speech devoted to the roots of Europe brought together religious leaders and European decision-makers around a shared reflection.

At a time marked by multiple international tensions, the emphasis placed on mutual listening highlights the importance of dialogue as a means of preventing conflict and building lasting relationships.

A Cooperative Dimension

The visit of Leo XIV also shone a light on initiatives dedicated to support, hospitality and solidarity, particularly through his visit to Maison Bakhita in Paris and his encounters with vulnerable people in Lourdes. [vatican.va], [la-croix.com]

These moments highlight a principle that is central to Approches Coopératives: human development is built through relationships, participation and recognition of each person's dignity.

Responses to contemporary challenges do not depend solely on institutions; they also rely on the capacity of citizens, associations and communities to act together.

A Call to Build Together

I hope this visit to France will be remembered as a gathering around values that transcend individual affiliations: peace, solidarity, respect for human dignity and collective responsibility.

In a society facing many divisions, these references encourage us to pursue cooperation, dialogue and commitment in the service of the common good.

Might this not be an example worth following?
