Solidarity finance

In the world's poorest countries, a financial crisis persists: a large portion of the population is excluded from all financial services.
To carry out income-generating activities and try to escape poverty, people need accessible financial services covering three essential areas :

  • First, credit: equipment loans to start a business or workshop, working capital loans to support a marketing campaign.
  • Second, savings, which allow the poorest to help each other and invest wisely in the community.
  • Finally, insurance, which provides people with a minimum level of support in case of unforeseen difficulties: life insurance, agricultural insurance, etc.

Cut off from all accessible financial services, the poor are condemned to poverty.

This issue of Approches Coopératives was produced in cooperation with an international solidarity organization that is arguably unique in France and even in Europe: SIDI (International Solidarity for Development and Investment).

Its aim was to analyze areas of solidarity and cooperation that are still often overlooked: solidarity savings and finance, etc.

Contents:

  • An urgent need for the economic inclusion of the poor
  • International Solidarity for Development and Investment
  • Navigating solidarity savings
  • The challenges of partnership
  • Cafeperu
  • Community finance in Guatemala
  • Mechanics and old cars
  • Laurence Kwark, Secretary General of GSEF
