Issue 19 of Approches Coopératives addresses the issue of children and young people in difficulty.
Roland Daval opens the discussion with an editorial that highlights the scale of the problem of children in difficulty in today's world. Interviews and reports then illustrate the responses developed by public authorities and non-profit organizations in the United States, France, Burkina Faso, Madagascar, Senegal, and Sub-Saharan Africa.
Innovative initiatives are presented, such as the residential care facilities run by the Colibri association, the support provided to incarcerated young offenders by the "Grandir dignement" (Growing Up with Dignity) association, and interventions with street children.
Jean-Christophe Noel, Director of Educational Missions for the Youth Judicial Protection Service, presents the historical evolution and recent developments in youth protection in France. The issue concludes with a passionate plea from Michel Seyrat: "Have mercy on the children."
Finally, a glossary of child protection reception and support services is provided in the documentation.
