Matheus Batalha Nery, member of the editorial board of Approches Coopératives and professor of psychology at the University of Sergipe in Brazil, produced this issue with the help of several prestigious Brazilian academics. As the France-Brazil year draws to a close, reading the testimonies of those who worked closely with him for years provides an opportunity to discover or rediscover the thinking of Paulo Freire, the famous Brazilian educator who revolutionized teaching methods for young people and adults, as well as popular education. At a time when democracy is under threat throughout the world, all teachers and educators should reflect on Paulo Freire's words: “For a person to recognize themselves as a political subject, they must first be recognized as a subject in the educational process.”
